COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Advancement

MAIN FUNCTION: 

Reports to the Senior Director of Advancement. Directs and coordinates Chapter communication activities and media relations to increase general knowledge of American Red Cross services, increase sales of products and services, and enhance fundraising activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Direct the development and execution of Chapter communications and public relations programs to promote consistent messaging throughout the Chapter and heighten the awareness and understanding of American Red Cross services.

2)  Coordinate communications with the Development Department to support the Chapter's fundraising efforts.

3) Direct organizational positioning and establish communication strategy and resource allocation to meet established objectives and reach target audiences.

4) Work directly with service departments to develop strategies for the promotion of all Chapter services.

5) Manage all external communications including: public relations, media sponsorships, newsletters, annual report, donor updates, event scripts, and the Chapter website.

6) Manage relationships and contracts with external vendors such as printers and graphic designers.

7) Coordinate communication archives.

8) Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Undergraduate degree in communications or related field.  Three to five years experience in communications or related field.   Superior verbal and written skills.  Knowledge of desktop publishing, inDesign and word processing systems required. Social media and interactive web expertise required. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, tight deadlines, limited resources and volunteer relationships.
