Home > Volunteer > Volunteer Opportunities Volunteer OpportunitiesDisaster Services Greater Buffalo Chapter “Disaster Action Team” (DAT) volunteers are specially trained to support victims of emergencies, such as fires, floods, natural disasters, hazardous materials spills, etc. Disaster volunteers are “on-call” and are responsible for damage assessment and helping victims with immediate needs such as food, clothing and shelter. DAT members must be at least 18 year of age with reliable transportation. Armed Forces Emergency Services AFES volunteers assist in relaying emergency communications between military members and their families. Volunteer work can be done from the privacy of your own home! Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, be willing to work flexible hours, and be on-call for periods of time. LIFE Project Do you like spending time with seniors? Consider adopting-a-grandparent through the LIFE Project. LIFE Project volunteers help seniors on Buffalo’s West and East side, stay safe and healthy in their homes by assisting them with everyday tasks. Volunteers of all ages are welcome. Ombudsman Program A little time can make a big difference in the lives of people living in nursing homes. Ombudsman volunteers advocate & visit with residents of long-term care facilities. Ombudsman volunteers must be at least 21 years of age, have good communication skills and be willing to spend at least four (4) hours per week in the facility. I'm OK Program Do you enjoy organizing events and planning parties? Are you outgoing and like spending time with seniors? Volunteers are needed to promote the I’m OK program and plan recognition events. I’m OK program helps residents living in senior housing look after one another and keep each other safe. Volunteers must have strong public speaking skills and reliable transportation. Family Care Giving Training & Outreach Initiative Are you a nurse, social worker or allied health professional looking to volunteer some time in your field in a different way? Volunteer instructors are needed for the Family Care giving Program to teach real life care giving skills in the community. Prior teaching experience is not necessary, but a plus. Community Preparedness Activities Volunteers are needed to staff booths at community-wide events and to be presenters for this program. Volunteers will be trained to give presentations to groups in the community about preparing and responding to disasters and emergencies. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and have strong public speaking skills. Administrative Services All administrative offices of the Greater Buffalo Chapter are located in the Clement House, at 786 Delaware Avenue. Volunteer opportunities in the Clement House include clerical, switchboard / reception, data entry, and filing needs. Development (Fundraising and Events) Volunteers with the Development team assist in the Chapter offices with administrative duties. Volunteers should have office/administrative experience and be computer literate. Volunteers are also occasionally needed to assist with the behind-the-scenes work involved in special events. Communications and Marketing Volunteers with strong writing or design skills are always needed. Projects may include creation of press releases, printed materials, and marketing pieces. Strong layout and graphics abilities are a plus.
