Through the Lifeline to Independence for the Elderly (LIFE) Project, teams of adult and teen volunteers help seniors remain safe, healthy and independent in their own homes. These volunteers supply a variety of services including house and yard work, errand running, pet care and snow removal. The program also provides in-home safety training for seniors, week-end transportation and transportation for non-medical trips. Volunteers often say what’s wonderful about the LIFE Project is that it benefits more than just the seniors. While young people gain skills and are trained to work with seniors, they find themselves connecting with the seniors in such a way that the experience far exceeds any expectations they had of the program. LIFE Project volunteers are currently serving more than 200 senior citizens on the East and West Sides of Buffalo and Cheektowaga. Volunteers are greatly needed! If you’re interested in volunteering with the LIFE Project, or for more information, please call 878-2349. If someone you know is in need of services, please call: East Side/Cheektowaga – 893-7222, ext. 223. West Side – 882-2442, ext. 28.
