Caregiving Schedule

The American Red Cross, Greater Buffalo Chapter is offering several classes, free of charge, to help care givers prepare for their role in assisting loved ones at home.  Each class will feature two topics.

Thursday, Jan. 24 from 6 through 8 p.m.:
Positioning and Helping Your Loved Ones Move – This class helps individuals understand and apply the principles of good body mechanics, the importance of repositioning loved ones who spends a lot of time in bed, how to prevent pressure ulcers and how to safely help their loved ones move.

Assisting with Personal Care – This class prepares individuals to understand the caregiving techniques for assisting loved ones with mouth care, grooming, dressing and undressing, bathing, shampooing and toileting.


Wednesday, Feb. 6 from noon through 2 p.m.:
Home Safety – This class prepares individuals to check their home for hazards, understand how to keep their homes safe from fire, recognize the importance of knowing how to use equipment such as wheelchairs, protect themselves and their loved ones from infection, be prepared for emergencies and create a first aid kit and disaster supplies kit.

Healthy Eating – This class helps individuals recognize that healthy eating is important for people of all ages, understand basic nutrition and know how to help feed loved ones, if necessary


Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 9:30 through 11:30 a.m.:
Caring for the Caregiver – This class prepares individuals who are family caregivers to take care of their own health while caring for loved ones.

Healthy Eating – This class helps individuals recognize that healthy eating is important for people of all ages, understand basic nutrition and know how to help feed loved ones, if necessary


Thursday, March 6 from 6 to 8 p.m.:

The classes will be held at the American Red Cross, Greater Buffalo Chapter Training Center located in the Blood Services Building at 786 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14209.
