WESTERN NEW YORK GROUPS FOR STORM RELIEF
National Grid will contribute $255,000 to three area non-profit organizations working to provide relief to local residents who have been affected by the devastating storm that hit Western New York last week. The effects of the storm continue to be felt throughout the region.
According to Dennis W. Elsenbeck, National Grid vice president of Business Services, the company will donate $200,000 to the Disaster Relief Fund of the American Red Cross for use in Western New York. To date, the
Red Cross has provided local residents with more than 570 overnight accommodations, 1,200 meals and 600 snacks. The company also will contribute $50,000 to the Buffalo Economic Renaissance Corporation. In addition, the Buffalo-based Community Action Organization will receive $5,000 in gratitude
for its support and staffing of warming centers.
“These organizations have provided critical services to residents and businesses in Western New York, throughout the aftermath of the storm,” Elsenbeck said. “As we’ve worked to restore power, we have witnessed the hardship the storm has brought to our community and we wanted to do our part to help support these organizations in their mission to help our neighbors endure this event.”
Elsenbeck praised and thanked Buffalo Mayor Byron W. Brown,
County Executive Joel A. Giambra, and all of the other local, county, state and federal officials, workers and volunteers for their invaluable cooperation and tireless work on the recovery effort.
Approximately 180,000 homes and businesses have had their power restored to date, down from an initial 265,000 that were initially affected. National Grid expects to have the restoration effort 90 percent complete by Friday night, and all power fully restored by this weekend.
