Greater Buffalo Chapter honors two outstanding supporters

GREATER BUFFALO CHAPTER HONORS TWO
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTERS

John R. Yurtchuk, Dave & Buster’s Grand Sports Café receive awards

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The American Red Cross, Greater Buffalo Chapter announced today that two awards were presented at the chapter’s annual Major Donor Dinner.  The dinner is held to honor individuals, companies and organizations that lend outstanding support to the chapter’s mission.

Greater Buffalo Chapter Executive Director Nancy Blaschak said, “The chapter is proud to recognize the outstanding contribution of a select group of American Red Cross supporters.  We are delighted to salute our financial donors for playing a critical role in helping us fulfill the most important mission an organization could have – saving lives.”

The Clara Barton Award is named for the founder of the Red Cross movement.  “We find that Clara Barton’s spirit lives on through the hard work and dedication of loyal Red Cross volunteers everywhere,” Blaschak said.

The Clara Barton Award is the chapter’s highest honor, given to recognize the outstanding volunteer of the year.  It is presented to one or more individuals whose volunteer accomplishments have made a positive and profound impact on Red Cross services.

This year’s recipient is John R. Yurtchuk, president of Matrix Development Corporation.  Yurtchuk serves on the chapter’s board of directors and was elected to the position of board treasurer for fiscal year 2007-2008.

“John has been a tremendous supporter of our annual event, The BASH, over the last several years.  He has worked hard at bringing in new corporate sponsors, and we are delighted that he has agreed to co-chair BASH ’08,” Blaschak said.

“John’s volunteer accomplishments have certainly made a positive and profound impact on helping us deliver our services to the Greater Buffalo community,” Blaschak added.

The Ruth C. Roberts Award recognizes an exceptional contribution to the success of the chapter during a singular year.  “It is named in honor of the late Ruth C. Roberts, a remarkable Red Cross volunteer who was committed to the chapter and whose genuine and selfless concern for humanity was always a model for all who seek to serve others,” Blaschak said.

This year’s recipient is Dave & Buster’s Grand Sports Café’, an interactive entertainment facility located in Eastern Hills Mall.

“Dave and Buster’s has supplied food and beverages at The BASH in the past.  But this year, they exceeded all expectations by providing $80,000 worth of food and beverages for the entire VIP tent,” Blaschak said.  “Additionally the Dave & Buster’s employee team that staffed the tent worked tirelessly to ensure all VIP guests had a great BASH experience.  Their contribution went a long way toward making The BASH such a successful event.”

The American Red Cross, Greater Buffalo Chapter prepares for, and responds to, community disasters and emergencies and helps people lead safe and healthy lives.  The American Red Cross is one of the oldest and largest volunteer driven organizations in the United States and locally depends on the contributions of 1,000 volunteers to provide its emergency service and health education programs.
